CONTROL Resonant Tier Lists
Pre-launch rankings for Aberrant forms and specialised Gap builds.
This Tier List hub ranks what preview sessions have shown about CONTROL Resonant’s combat identity before the 24 September 2026 digital launch. It is not a post-launch meta bible. Hands-on coverage from Summer Game Fest Play Days, State of Play footage, and Remedy diaries is enough to sketch strong opening lanes, weak early traps, and how builds should specialise instead of trying to own every Resonant power on a first save.
CONTROL Resonant is a single-player action RPG. Dylan Faden’s Aberrant replaces Jesse’s Service Weapon with Primary forms (Flurry, Slash, Slice), Secondary forms (Crush, Extend), and combo-enders. Abilities unlock by defeating Resonants and are slotted inside The Gap. Artifacts fill three slots on a first run, with a fourth opening in New Game Plus. Those systems are why this hub sits beside combat and resonants rather than pretending a day-one ladder already exists.

The Aberrant forms tier list grades Primary and Secondary identities with S / A / B preview ranks, clear caveats, and notes on crowd clear versus single-target burst. It explains why Slash looked like a safe first pick for chaotic street packs, why Flurry rewards aerial crit routes, and why Slice’s backstab bonus asks for better positioning.
The builds page covers The Gap, Talent trees, six ability slots, Artifact planning, Spec Points, and what New Game Plus actually carries forward — combat progression, not traversal unlocks. It argues for specialising into a Primary plus Secondary pair instead of spreading nodes across every branch.
Both pages link each other and point back to this hub. Pair them with Dylan Faden if you want the fantasy behind the weapon, and with Getting Started if you still need the first-hour checklist.
How to use a pre-launch tier list
Treat every rank as a hypothesis. Preview builds were limited to opening Manhattan plus a later arena. Enemy density, boss telegraphs, and economy balance can shift after day-one patches. When a claim comes from a specific hands-on, the child page says so. After launch, return here for updates instead of trusting a screenshot from June 2026 forever.
A practical reading order:
- Skim this hub so you know Primary versus Secondary language.
- Open the Aberrant forms page and pick one Primary identity for your first zone.
- Open builds and decide which Ability lanes and Artifact themes support that identity.
- Cross-check controls so muscle memory matches the loadout you just planned.
What “tier” means here
S-tier preview picks are forms that felt strong across both the street section and the arena with minimal setup. A-tier picks need a cleaner play pattern or a supporting Talent. B-tier picks are viable but punish mistakes harder or ask for unlocks you may not have in the first few hours. Nothing is listed as unusable — Remedy’s design leans into stylish melee, not dead weapon options.
Secondary forms change the end of a string as much as the opener. Crush is the heavy hammer fantasy; Extend is the reach and charge fantasy. Combo-enders sit on top of those choices. The forms page ranks them with the same honesty: preview feel first, launch meta later.
Related systems outside this hub
World Quests and Bounties in Manhattan’s open-ended zones will pressure different loadouts than a pure story sprint. Remedy’s rough length estimates — about 30 hours for the core path and up to 50 with side content — mean a specialised build will feel better than a scattered one. For platform and edition choices that affect when you can test these rankings yourself, see platforms and editions.
FBC: Firebreak is a separate multiplayer spin-off. Do not import its loadout talk into Resonant tier lists; this hub only covers the single-player sequel.
When you finish ranking forms, watch the trailers once for visual tells — scythe arcs, twin-blade flurries, hammer charges — then lock your day-one plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for launch week, pre-orders, and first-hour combat.
Are these CONTROL Resonant tier lists final?
No. They are pre-launch preview rankings based on hands-on coverage. Expect shifts after the 24 September 2026 digital launch.
Should I specialise or unlock everything?
Specialise. The builds page explains why six ability slots and limited early Resonant rewards punish generalist first runs.
Where are Primary and Secondary forms ranked?
On the Aberrant forms tier list. Primaries are Flurry, Slash, and Slice; Secondaries include Crush and Extend.
Does New Game Plus change the tier list?
NG+ adds a fourth Artifact slot and carries combat progression, not traversal. That can elevate specialised builds; details are on the builds page.
